I thought long and hard about this one. The reasonable and logical part of me would like to say that this category should be thrown out. I think everything should have a beginning and and ending rather than going on forever. There have been enough highly demanded sequels to popular movies that have proven that it’s best to let things end. But since this category does exist, I’ll do my best to provide an answer. I chose K-On!

For a series to be able to continue infinitely, it needs to provide a universe that can continue to exist, well, forever. I think K-On! is uniquely suited to fulfill such a role. As much of the show is simply about the characters lives and relationships, there are almost limitless stories to tell. Their lives as musicians can continue along with them; countless bands have been known and loved for decades (though I admit, it’s sad to see some of them age).

Most importantly, they’re characters that are easy to “invite into your living room” so to speak. Their quirky and lively personalities make for great entertainment. Their familiar and comfortable relationships with one another directly translate into the familiarity and comfort of the audience. Like all the best long-running sitcoms, they have the ability to really create an emotional bond with viewers without ever directly interacting with them.

Like I said in the beginning, I think all great stories should come to an end. While I was devastated when K-On! finally closed curtain for the last time, I was still incredibly happy that I got to experience it at all. That’s a unique feeling that can only be felt from something that has a clear beginning and ending and it’s part of what makes K-On! so special in the first place.   1. I agree that series shoud have an ending and not go on forever. But if I can be allowed to tweak the question to: What anime do I wish we’d gotten more of?, then my answer would be Coppelion. I really enjoyed the one season of this anime that we got and I believe that it covered less then half of the manga, so it would have been great if it had received a second or even a third season.

  2. I’m not sure I have a good answer to this one. I definitely have anime that I wish I had less of.

    I would have liked to see a legitimate ending for Kenshin. Or Gantz. I definitely want an ending to Gantz that makes sense.

      Yeah, I would love to see a FULL and proper adaptation of this. One that makes a few necessary changes but tells the complete story. The Gonzo version was… not great. The Netflix film was stronger, but you need to already be pretty familiar with the series to even watch it, so that’s an issue.

      2. I actually thought the show got stronger when it diverged. The whole thing was a bit of a mess though.

        I do know what’s going on in Gantz overall, some of the cool stuff that comes into play later, but it needed a better adaptation for sure.

    I agree that I prefer a well-told story over one that drags on. It’s like that Batman line about living long enough to become the villian.
